I was one of the first handgun permit holders in the State. I have been with several instructors, from my initial licensing to renewal instructors. Josh is the only instructor that I would recommend. Rather than comment on the others shortcomings, you will find the instruction outstanding, the paperwork in order, and the range test safe and well organized. Hint if you have not been shooting for a while or have never shot get a good well oiled semi-auto and drop a few boxes through your weapon. If you are new hire Josh for a lesson, you will save yourself and all involved a tremendous amount of time, frustration, and pressure.

LoneStar Handgun was the best priced CHL course that I could find, they saved me at least 40.00 but compared to most classes they saved me even more than that. If you're traveling from Killeen it's only about a 20 min. drive. The instructor was very knowledgeable of the questions we had for him, and was usually able to give us multiple sources to research any future inquiries we may have. He made sure that everyone understood the contents of the information being given so that we wouldn't have any problems passing the course. LoneStar Handgun not only gives you the course but they take your fingerprints, pictures, and provide you with the packet you will need to apply for your CHL and will help you correctly fill out the forms within it, for no extra charge. They even helped me when I had trouble at the range, I brought one of my husband's handguns and hadn't fired that particular one in a while and had trouble getting it to properly fire. They were very helpful and I was on my way to completing the course in no time.

It was professional, accomodations and visuals were excellent and liked having the range located in the same facility as the class. My other classes did not have ranges readily availble so we had to travel to the range for qualification once the class room material was covered. Having the class at Bass Pro shop also gives you an interesting place to occupy your time during breaks. There are also many places around the store to grab a quick bite to eat without having to go far from class. I will definitely recommend your class to anyone wanting their CHL.

I just returned to Washington and am working on completing the CHL packet. I found the class quite informative and not at all boring. I will definitely recommend your class to any of my friends there. One comment I'd like to make about the NRA clip shown on the New Orleans gun confiscation after Hurricane Katrina: I was SHOCKED to see how many people had never heard of what happened there. I'm a bit biased. I'm a life NRA member and watch the NRA News shows often, so I've seen it. But I recall my disbelief when I saw the TV news broadcasts at the time showing those civil rights violations. It's unfortunate and frustrating that the one organization that is out there trying to protect our rights is constantly tarred by the liberals as some fringe organization to be dismissed.

Josh, Thank you for your Christmas card. We enjoyed your class and it was an eye opener for my wife. I come across as a radical when talking about gun ownership and Second Amendment (Life Member NRA, Second Amendment Foundation). Funny, hearing it from a third party caught my wife's attention. I do have to say that the more I learn about the law(s), even in Texas, the more agitated I become. I do not plan to head a rebellion, but I just see our rights nibbled away more and more. Your class was not boring! There was a lot of really needed information transfered to the audience. I did not have time to talk directly with you for too much and what time I did have my emotions were hitting me a bit. I think I may be anti-authoritarian, but I did survive 20 years in the Army with multiple honorable discharges. A thought for your future classes: I was distracted by the general noise level of other class members when we took the exam and were getting the answers. I know I am a bit nervous, but that is an area where the class should be reminded that not everyone learns, reads, or writes at the same pace. I suppose chronic PTSD lends to me being sensitive. Then too, it could be that I am just old and cranky! You have an exceptional presentation style and I commend you for your level of energy. You are really doing the public a service by being an instructor/teacher/leader.

I really appreciate your approach to training. The class content is obviously serious in nature; however, your professional, but casual presentation creates a comfortable and relaxed learning environment. You provided the knowledge and skills necessary to meet state requirements along with some thought provoking videos and demonstrations. Handling the photos, fingerprinting and notary in house is a value added service that simplified the process. First class operation. I attended your class on January 7 and received my CHL on this past Friday. That was 24 days mail box to mail box.

I thoroughly enjoyed the class yesterday, and it didn't even compare with defensive driving! I think the most intense part of the day was the part on the penal code. You really drove home the point that you can't be indecisive and have to come to grips with your decision to use a gun before you ever have to use it. . I took your CHL class back in October. I would like to say it was 10/24 or somewhere around that date. To keep you informed of how long it is taking, I mailed my information to the state around 10/30 and I received my renewed license on about 12/15. You were pretty close in saying it took 45 days. On top of that I forgot to sign my picture so they had to mail me that which may have delayed the license a few days. I would have to say the turn around time wasn't too bad. I have to tell you, not only was I able to retain everything you said because of how you presented the material, the time just flew by. I have already recommened your class to a coworker who is former military. He is very interested and I gave him your website. I was looking at taking that class you offer just for ladies, but it appears to be just for beginners or those who have no knowledge or little knowledge of their handgun and goes over safety material such as what we went over in the CHL class. Let me know if I am reading that description incorrectly. Also, I have a question. We do have the 30.06 sign posted at my work. I work at a medical office building. However, I looked in my handbook and there is absolutely no mention whatsoever about handguns in the material. So, am I correct that it would be ok for me to have it in my vehicle and also if I had to use it in the parking lot, it would not be considered a violation of that code? Anyway, thank you again for a great class on Saturday. I really learned a lot and thought you were an excellent instructor!!

I found the experience worthwhile and enjoyable. The early start was not a problem for me (my wife has another opinion). There was some "down time" which is to be expected. I attended your June 27 class at Texas Trophy Ctr. Mailed in paperwork from Arizona first week of July. CHL received today, Sep. 21. This is an "out of state" CHL as I had it mailed to my Arizona address. So it took about 10-11 weeks to get it. The fact that I already hold an Arizona CWP may or may not have sped up the processing time. Texas did send a pin number and info letter prior to this, but I did not make inquiries or call them at any time. Hope this helps you out for those who attend your course from out of Texas. Enjoyed your course immensely, and I needed to know Texas laws since I am a part-year resident there. Good luck in your plans for opening a new facility. Any chance you may open your own handgun range for those of us who might want to practice when you are not running applicants for qualifications? See you at renewal time!! If not sooner!

My wife and I took your course in March. We submitted our forms with only our military IDs and not state IDs, and they were rejected. We had to send a copy of our NC State drivers licenses to get our CCLs, and we just received them this week. Tell your folks to do everything right the first time or it will take double the time! The gentleman taking fingerprints that day told us two things we found to be incorrect: -He told me that as AD military I should apply for an in-state license and didn't need to send my NC drivers license: my paperwork was held up until they received that license. -He told my wife that as a military dependent she should send her military ID and GA license and apply as an in-state licensee: they returned her paperwork and told her to apply as an out of state resident. We enjoyed the course and will see you again at re-cert time.

I still say my gun was only pointed at him while it was coming out of my bag and if were not for the trigger lock he put on it, it would have been in the case so there would never be a question as to if it were pointed at him or not.
